Transformers: Heavy Metal is Transformers meets Pokemon Go in the new mobile game from Niantic, and it’s arriving this year.
Ever since Pokemon Go launched in 2016, other mobile developers and publishers have been trying to replicate the success of Niantic. Some better than others. But none have truly caught on in the AR genre quite like Pokemon Go.
What is Transformers: Heavy Metal?
Niantic’s new game in partnership with Hasbro is what you get if you combine the worlds of Pokemon Go and Transformers.
Transformers: Heavy Metal will use location-based software so that you can encounter the likes of Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, and perhaps even the tyrant that is Megatron!
“Transformers is the perfect franchise for AR. Battling and interacting with giant robots in the real world will be an amazing experience,” said John Hanke, CEO of Niantic. “We want to live up to the high expectations of Transformers fans around the world and bring them a game unlike anything they’ve played before.”
In Transformers: Heavy Metal players will join the Guardian Network and team up with the Autobots to fight back in the war against the Decepticons.
“As a Guardian, players will uncover hidden regions across Earth to find resources and battle Decepticons in turn-based battles, either solo or with friends.”
Transformers: Heavy Metal will use Augmented Reality software and real-time 3D mapping in what is described as “multiplayer social experiences.”
When will Transformers: Heavy Metal release?
