GeForce RTX 3060 successfully used in a 7-way mining rig

Just over a month ago, no one would have believed that NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 mining limiter will be broken this quickly, but it was. In fact, it was not even hacked, but the limiter was removed by NVIDIA themselves by ‘accident’. The removal of the ETH mining algorithm did not solve all the limiting factors though. The bypass did work but only for single-GPU configurations and only if the card was attached to the PCIe slot directly.

It was quickly discovered that the multi-GPU ETH limit could easily be bypassed by using a dummy HDMI plug, which tricked the driver into sending a display signal to the monitor which did not exist. For some reason, this also unlocked full mining potential on all cards that were attached to the system.

The final problem to solve was the PCIe riser support. Apparently despite using HDMI dummy plugs the limiter would only work if the graphics cards were attached directly to the PCIe slot. It appears that this problem has now also been solved. The user from QuasarZone confirms that 7-way RTX 3060 mining rig is successfully operating using dummy HDMI plugs and PCIe risers. The user did not explain what was done to enable riser support, but it is mentioned that it only works with one motherboard.

Such a 7-way RTX 3060 mining rig with optimizations pulls 1020W of power. Such a system can generate around 32 USD of profit each day with power costs included.

What this all means is that just over a month after GeForce RTX 3060 release, miners have been able to successfully use this graphics card model in a typical multi-GPU mining rig without any limitations. The mining limiter on RTX 3060 has now become completely useless.
