As covered by TheGamer, according to Nintendo’s financial results for the most recent fiscal year, the Nintendo Switch has sold just fewer than 85 million units. This means that the Switch has currently outsold the Xbox 360 by just under 600k units.
However, despite the impressive sales numbers for the Nintendo Switch, the console still has some catching up to do if it is to surpass other Nintendo systems.
For example, the Game Boy has sold 118.9 million units, while the Nintendo DS has sold 154.02 million units. But something tells me that the Nintendo Switch stands a decent chance to outsell its in-house rivals in the years to come.
Naturally, the ever-increasing console sales of the Nintendo Switch, also means that their first-party exclusive games will also sell like hotcakes too. As of right now, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has sold 35.9 million units, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons 32.63 million units.
Following the Nintendo Switch’s two current best-selling first-party titles we have Super Smash Bros. Ultimate with 23.84 million units, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild with 22.28 million units sales, and Pokemon Sword and Shield with 21.10 million unit sales.
If the rumours that Nintendo is planning on releasing a new Switch with 4K OLED and a bigger screen are true, the popular hybrid console will surely be making its way into even more homes worldwide.
Do you believe that the Nintendo Switch will become the best-selling console of all time, surpassing the Game Boy and DS? We think it stands a decent chance. Let us know your thoughts across our social media channels.
