The news was announced on Twitter by the Lead PR Manager at CD Projekt Red, Radek Grabowski.
“ICYMI, the next-generation update for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is coming in the second half of 2021,” said Grabowski in a tweet.
The news of the upgrade for The Witcher 3 was first revealed back in September 2020, but it’s good to know that the wait is nearly over for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S gamers.
While we haven’t seen any gameplay footage of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S upgrade yet, we can expect it will include improved visuals, textures, framerate, as well as ray-tracing, and faster loading times.
Many fans had hoped that the new-gen upgrade for The Witcher 3 might arrive sooner, but obviously CD Projekt Red has to prioritise fixing Cyberpunk 2077 first, which will also be getting the same upgrade later this year.
With the confirmation that the new-gen upgrades will arrive during the second half of 2021, CD Projekt Red also revealed that it will be working on the new The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077 games simultaneously in 2022.
Let’s just hope that Cyberpunk 2077 is actually fixed by that time before CDPR starts working on any new games.
For those that don’t own The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt or Cyberpunk 2077, they will be able to buy both games for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S as a standalone later in the year too.
