The Sims 4 Kits: Who, What & Why?

The Sims 4 has been a blessing in recent times. By offering gamers the opportunity to micromanage the lives of their created characters, The Sims 4 has given gamers control at a time we need it most. Now that level of control has extended to the game’s DLC thanks to the introduction of Kits! Confused about the new add-on? Let’s take a look at the who, what and why of The Sims 4 Kits!

What Are Kits?

Kits are officially here and they’ll give gamers a chance to add official Sims content to their game without having to pay the price of an Expansion, Game or Stuff Pack.

Kits are tiny bite-sized morsels of content packs, available in three categories: Create-A-Sim, Build/Buy and Gameplay. Bridging the gap between the launch of larger, more traditional DLC, Kits will give Simmers new content at a fraction of the price, without the long wait times between the release of new Packs.

Why Would You Want Kits?

Seasoned Sims players will know that when it comes to additional content, The Sims 4 delivers! The base game can be padded out with big Expansion Packs, middle-sized Game Packs or the much smaller Stuff Packs.

With offerings ranging from the sandy shores of Sulani in The Sims 4 Island Living Expansion, to creating your ideal miniature house in the Tiny Living Stuff Pack, there’s already a myriad of ways you can tailor your Sims 4 experience. However, not everything in every pack is something you’ll use…

Gamers who love the items in the Vampires Game Pack may have to deal with the occasional blood-sucking, while Seasons players who want Father Winter have to contend with Sims being afraid of stormy weather. While some mechanics can be turned off, it can be disheartening to have paid for content that simply doesn’t suit your play style.

Most Sims players have, at some point, lamented buying a Pack with gameplay or items they just don’t want, and that’s where Kits come in. Kits are smaller and cheaper than even a Stuff pack, and offer Simmers the chance to enjoy a more bespoke selection of new content, without the filler.

Each Kit has a focus on one element of The Sims, meaning if you’re a builder you can buy a Build/Buy Kit, if you’re a stylist then a CAS Kit will be the one for you. Dislike filler, but want more gameplay? A Gameplay Kit is the right choice!

Kits make playing your way even easier, and we can expect lots of new and exciting Kits in the coming months! For now, let’s take a look at the new Kits available right now.

Introducing The Very First Kits!

EA has launched the new Kits expansions with a bang, offering three new Kits for players to choose from.

While Kits will later be released one at a time, Simmers are spoiled for choice with a CAS (Create-A-Sim) Kit, a Build/Buy Kit and a Gameplay Kit all available now! The choice is yours, so let’s explore each of the new Kits.

Throwback Fit Kit

The Throwback Fit Kit is aimed at Create-A-Sim lovers who love nothing more than kitting out their Sims in the latest – and most stylish! – outfits.

Throwback Fit Kit is a dream come true for those who love the 1990s as it’s packed with all the bright colours and windbreakers you’ll ever need.

The Kit will inject a pop of colour into your Sims’ lives with everything from iconic 90s tracksuits to sunflower-printed bucket hats. Even better, kids haven’t been ignored, with lots of items for them to choose from too!

Throwback Fit Kit contains 23 brand new Create-A-Sim items for you to jazz up your Sims’ wardrobes. Pick it up for £4.99 GBP/$4.99 USD!

Country Kitchen Kit

The classic country kitchen is a look that most Simmers have created at some point, but now we have more items than ever to achieve that Pinterest perfection!

The Country Kitchen Kit is nothing short of gorgeous, offering up everything from new counters and appliances to the decor of your dreams. Add in a range of new countertops and what’s sure to be your new favourite oven, and you have a Kit that’s well worth your time!

The Sims team has cut no corners when it comes to quality here. Each of the new items comes in a variety of showstopping swatches, with a focus on rustic blues, greens and yellows.

This Kit contains a total of 15 new Build/Buy pieces, with everything you need to help you create your perfect kitchen.

The Sims 4 Country Kitchen Kit will cost you the same as every Kit: £4.99 GBP/$4.99 USD.

Bust The Dust

Last but not least we have Bust the Dust, a Gameplay Kit which adds vacuuming into your Sim’s lives. Fans of Laundry Day will be thrilled to see another real-world chore come to the game, and there’s more to this one than meets the eye!

Bust the Dust’s focus is on gameplay, with a handful of vacuum cleaners being the items on offer here. Adding a vacuum into your household will automatically make dust appear on your floors, and it’s up to you to clean them up!

Squeaky clean floors will shine before your eyes, and provide positive Moodlets for your household. A dusty house can upset Sims with the new Perfectly Pristine Aspiration, but Sims with the Fabulously Filthy Aspiration will thrive!

There’s a bonus to keeping a filthy home though – it could make you filthy rich! Leave your dust for too long and you’ll meet the new Dust Bunnies, a (mostly) friendly bunch of cute dusty pals who’ll bring you items you can sell on to make your fortune. Smells like a new Sims Challenge to me!

Bust the Dust retails for £4.99 GBP/$4.99 USD.
