Brace yourselves for more Mudokon madness, as Oddworld: Soulstorm finally has a release date.
It looks like Oddworld’s creator, Lorne Lanning, has held true to his word. They previously claimed that a release date would be revealed at the end of February.
Not only was it revealed that Oddworld: Soulstorm would release on the 6th of April 2021… But the game will also be part of April’s PlayStation Plus line up. Winner!
What Is Oddworld: Soulstorm?
Oddworld: Soulstorm is intended to be the sequel that never was. Based on the original Oddworld: Abes Exodus, Soulstorm is set to be a new start for the franchise, allowing it to flourish into the saga it was originally envisioned to be. The game was announced in 2016 and has been the subject of various delays since. This is likely due to the project’s ambitions, which aim to be different from the first Oddworld remake, New ‘n’ Tasty.
New ‘n’ Tasty was a scene by scene recreation of Abe’s Oddysee, the game that started it all for Oddworld Inhabitants. While the game was fun and pretty to look at, it perhaps didn’t go far enough in terms of what Oddworld should be. The series’ original run spawned four games, two of which branched out into the 3D genre. While the likes of Munch’s Oddysee and Strangers Wrath have since received remastered versions for modern consoles, they aren’t exactly what Lorne Lanning envisioned for the series.
Abe’s latest adventure is coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and the Epic Game Store on PC. There’s no mention of the game coming to Xbox consoles just yet, but the game could be a timed exclusive for PlayStation.
