Splatoon 3 Is Coming To Nintendo Switch

The Wii U didn’t get many things right as a platform, but it did give us Splatoon. Since its conception back in 2015, Splatoon has made its way onto the Nintendo Switch, allowing it to flourish as a franchise. Now, fans are preparing to dive headfirst into the inky action once again with Splatoon 3, announced at the most recent Nintendo Direct

If you’re unfamiliar with Splatoon, it’s a 4v4 third-person shooter that has two types of squid, (Inkling and Octoling), battling it out in a neon-soaked turf war.

The aim of the game is to cover as much of the map with your ink as possible. The team with the most amount of coverage on the map wins. Think paintball shooter and you’re on the money.

It’s a simple concept, but one that has resonated with players as a wholesome alternative to the usual adult-themed FPS scene.

Splatoon 3 takes our familiar Inkings on a journey far away from the familiar sights of Inkopolis. Instead, this messy adventure takes place in The Splatlands, a new “City of Chaos” that promises to facilitate a fierce turf war between both Inklings and Octolings.

The trailer’s depiction of this new city-scape is absolutely gorgeous. The sprawling urban constructs of The Splatlands draws on a kid-friendly dystopian aesthetic, something that suits Splatoon perfectly.

This sun-soaked new environment will contain various new maps, as well as an arsenal of new weaponry and the ability to perform new manoeuvres.

Splatoon 3 also seems to have more customisation options when it comes to your Inkling/Octoling, as well as a personalised little buddy to accompany you on your adventure.

The game isn’t due until 2022, so all we have to go on is a short reveal trailer with some glimpses of gameplay. That being said, it looks like Splatoon has evolved magnificently since the Wii U, striving forward with everything it has achieved both on Nintendo’s old hardware and the Switch.

With any luck, we’ll hear more about Splatoon 3 this year. Until then, there’s only one question that still remains unanswered – are you a kid now, or a squid now?
