Intel Core i7-11700K Rocket Lake engineering sample CPU preview posted ahead of launch –

Intel Core i7-11700K Rocket Lake 8-core 16-thread CPU beats Ryzen 7 5800X

A world’s first full (p)review of the Rocket Lake-S processor has been posted by Romanian media Lab501.

The publication is not sharing any information that could help identify the source of the CPU. It is possible that the sample was provided through board partners (which is often the only way to secure the sample before embargo). The site is calling its article a preview, rather than a full-fledged review. Although this is actually the first comprehensive test of the processor, the CPU is by no means a retail product. The Core i7-11700K CPU that was secured by the outlet is an engineering sample. As noted, Intel is still pushing microcode updates and it is possible that even this ES might still see a performance uplift ahead of launch.

The process that has been tested is an 8-core and 16-thread variant based on Cypress Cove core architecture. It is still a 14nm CPU but should see a 19% IPC uplift compared to the Comet Lake series, according to Intel. The CPU has a base clock of 3.6 GHz and boost up to 4.6 GHz with all cores. A single-core boost is 5.0 GHz. Unlike the Core i9 series, this CPU will not support Thermal Velocity Boost technology.

The CPU has been tested on undisclosed Z590 motherboard, while Ryzen CPUs have been tested with MEG X570 Godlike motherboard from MSI. Meanwhile Intel’s 10th Gen Core series were tested with Z490 Aorus Xtreme by Gigabyte. All CPUs were tested using DDR4-3200 memory. The system was equipped with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti graphics card.

We are only sharing the most important and interesting performance evaluations, feel free to look at the source link below for the full preview. This article will not have a commentary on the results.
