Resident Evil Village Fans Are Solving Cryptic Social Media Tease

The Resident Evil social media pages have posted a cryptic tweet that perhaps teases some details for Resident Evil Village.

For your inspection,” reads the tweet with an image of a letter with blocked out words.

The “Confidential” letter reads:

FIELD LOG. No: RE-VIII. < begin log>. Reporting from ….., on assignment to monitor the……

Noted recent tracks and blood along the route.  Signs indicate dragging bodies. Will begin recording the….. occupants and activities. < end log>

The “Field Log” would indicate that certain subjects are being watched and their actions are being reported back to higher-ups.  My first instinct is that Chris Redfield is the one on the scouting mission.

When we were first introduced to this new version of Chris Redfield at the end of Resident Evil 7, something wasn’t quite right with the former S.T.A.R.S and BSAA hero.

The suspicion of something not being quite right about this Chris Redfield was only heightened in recent Resident Evil Village trailers, where he not only shot and killed Mia Winters in front of Ethan in their own home, but it also appears that Chris had taken their daughter.

In Resident Evil Village Ethan Winters is searching for his missing daughter in the Village where it is believed Chris may have taken her. But the question is, why did Chris do this and who is he working for?

Well, we might have some answers. With the aid of the map included in the Resident Evil Village Collector’s Edition, Twitter user naven0m believes that they have deciphered some of the missing words from the confidential field log.

They believe that the first retracted words read “Reporting from Beneviento House” and the second part of that sentence is “to monitor the village.

This first part would certainly make sense because the Beneviento House is one of the four families and regions of the village.

The last deciphered section of the letter is believed to say “Will begin recording the castle occupants and activities.”

It is believed that this line is referring to Lady Dimitrescu and her daughters, who of course live in the castle that we’ve seen in recent trailers and the playable Maiden demo.

While we don’t know for sure if it is Chris Redfield making these reports, it at least makes the most sense to me. However the question still remains, is Chris reporting back to the Blue Umbrella or is he working for someone else?

Let us know your theories across our social media channels.

Resident Evil Village will release on May 7th for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
