Kevin McCallister himself has backed up calls for President Trump to be removed from Home Alone 2.
The twice-impeached President appears in a cameo the 1992 Christmas classic, giving directions in the hotel scene to a very lost Macaulay Culkin.
19 years later, fans of the film are taking it into their own hands to remove him from the scene, which looks a little something like this:
There’s something strangely satisfying about this whole clip post-edit, kind of like when you get rid of an old piece of furniture, freeing up space in your living room. It didn’t take long for word of this edit to reach Culkin himself, who replied saying “Bravo”.
Naturally, fans then began to speculate on what should replace the disgraced President in the scene, as after all, Kevin needs those directions! One user suggested that the present-day Macauley Culkin should fill in the void, to which the actor said he was “Sold”.
According to an interview with Insider, director Chris Columbus stated that Trump wasn’t originally supposed to be in the movie at all, recalling the events that transpired:
“We approached The Plaza Hotel, which Trump owned at the time because we wanted to shoot in the lobby. We couldn’t rebuild The Plaza on a soundstage. Trump said OK. We paid the fee, but he also said, ‘The only way you can use the Plaza is if I’m in the movie.’
“So we agreed to put him in the movie, and when we screened it for the first time the oddest thing happened: People cheered when Trump showed up on-screen. So I said to my editor, ‘Leave him in the movie. It’s a moment for the audience.’ But he did bully his way into the movie.”
If this campaign comes to fruition, this would mark the second time that Trump as been omitted from Home Alone 2 after Canadian broadcaster, CBC cut the scene entirely upon airing the film.
Trump’s IMDB page is surprisingly full of cameos and appearances throughout a range of shows and movies, ranging from WWE to the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
It’ll be interesting to see how many of these are edited by fans, transforming Trump from being a forced cameo to a weird transparent interdimensional blob (don’t tell me it doesn’t make you think of Doctor Who).
