Sony and Square Enix has unleashed a slew of exciting new details about the newly-revealed Final Fantasy 16.
The official Square Enix Twitter account has released a stunning piece of concept artwork for PlayStation 5 exclusive Final Fantasy XVI, but that’s not all we’ve been treated to today!
The art celebrates the launch of a dedicated new website for the 16th main entry in the beloved series, and features a very triumphant-looking Clive Rosefield, who’s just been revealed to be the protagonist of Final Fantasy 16. The tweet revealing the art work reads: “Take a step back and admire a brand new piece of artwork for #FF16, the latest standalone, numbered title in the@FinalFantasy series.”
Over on the PlayStation Blog, Square Enix producer Naoki Yoshida reveals that the character seen in the reveal trailer, both young and old, is new hero protagonist Clive Rosefield.
Speaking about the game world for FF16, Yoshida details the first full new info on the upcoming title.
“Final Fantasy XVI’s adventure takes place in a land called Valisthea, which is studded with colossal mountains of glittering crystal called Mothercrystals,” says the blog. “These Mothercrystals have towered over the realms around them for generations, blessing them with aether. This blessing of the Mothercrystals has allowed these realms to thrive, and their people to live in comfort.
“Countless wars have been fought over the Mothercrystals all around the land, leading to the rise of nations such as the Grand Duchy of Rosaria, the Holy Empire of Sanbreque, the Kingdom of Waloed, the Dhalmekian Republic, and the Iron Kingdom, each with their own culture and ideology. Ongoing skirmishes have forged an uneasy peace between these nations, but with the emergence of the ruinous Blight, that fragile peace is starting to deteriorate.”
A second piece of artwork has also been revealed which features a young Clive Rosefield and two characters called Joshua (centre) and Jill (right). Joshua Rosefield is the second son of the Archduke of Rosaria and younger brother of Clive by five years.
The third featured character is Jill Warrick who was taken from her homeland at a young age and became a ward of Rosaria; she achieved peace between two warring nations.
Little is known about the story of Final Fantasy 16 at this time, but on the teaser website it reveals that a mighty force known as “Eikons” has plagued the kingdoms of Valisthea with “the most powerful and deadly creatures” in its world.
More new details confirm that the next major announcement for Final Fantasy 16 will arrive sometime in 2021. When Final Fantasy 16 does release it will be an exclusive to the PlayStation 5.
